[ their mission: intercept a trade. kill the men involved. do not be seen. do not raise conflict. the outcome should be silent-- as if they never existed. take the package. return.
the mission seemed fairly simple-- seemed. that did not mean it was, quite the opposite. the place, for one, wasn't very assassin friendly. templar controlled, actually. it wasn't just anyone that would be able to return successful-- it wasn't out of nowhere that two highly skilled assassins were given the task: yusuf tazim and malik al-sayf.
the two men, while hearing of one another's name and story float about the brotherhood, they had not met. different headquarters. different locations, different people. so, no, not yet. until today, that is, at their haven-- to rest, prepare, then attack the following day. yusuf had prepared well, crafting new bomb and equipping his blades, darts . . . the whole shebang. he was armed to the teeth, just as anyone else going to battle would be. just as, correction, any assassin would. when he spots and strides over to the man, he does so while looking up and down, then nodding to himself. one arm, serious, frown-- yes, that was him. ]
Malik?

Malik?

he was slightly surprised when he'd heard what was going to happen. it didn't seem to make much sense that they'd want to people from completely separate branches to work together when they could have easily gotten two men from the one. but apparently Altair had his own work to attend to and they were the next best candidates for the job. he'd heard of Yusuf before and while his record was impressive, Malik still had his doubts (but then again, doesn't he have his doubts about everyone?). still, there's nothing he can do about it and he doubts it would make a difference either way. as long as things go as they should and no stupid mistakes are made, this should go according to plan. ]
I assume you're Yusuf?

[ greeting others with a smile was a favorite for yusuf. not only favorite, but natural. he did it without thinking. other thing he did on impulse, on instinct, was place his hand on the man's shoulder, while he holds the other outstretched to shake malik's hand. ]
What gave me away? [ if not for the coming up to greet, of course ]

That ridiculous thing on your head. I was told you would be wearing something like that.
[ he motions to the scarf. it's true he was told that Yusuf would probably be wearing that, but the ridiculous part is actually his own observation. ]

[ omg malik you're hilarious he likes you already. in all seriousness, he knew that was probably genuine. yep, this guy was a stick in mud. he'll learn to let go a bit . . .
anyway, this gets him to chuckle now, and with much playfulness: ]
You can offend one with such sharp words! [ malik get used to it this is your partner
he taps at his temple, right against the scarf on his head. yusuf, as malik would start to see, was quite the colorful one, and that was in all aspects. ]
It's an old remembrance of mine. Its radiance lifts lowered spirits!
[ but y it ain't working with u tho ]

he sighs and rolls his eyes. how is he going to get through this mission with someone like this? he's even peppier than Kadar ever was and that is saying something. Kadar could be extremely peppy when he wanted to be.
but this guy laughs at insults. it's the worst kind of annoying. ]
It was not meant as a compliment. I would say to take offense would be the appropriate reaction to my words.
[ Malik is already beginning to see that Yusuf is a pretty colorful person. it's not a good combination to his boring gray. he needs some of those colors to rub off on him. ]
We will see if it actually works soon enough.
[ he doesn't have much faith in it, though. ]

It's hard to resist, that, I could say with confidence. Now--
I would like to know more about the brother I am sharing this contract with.

What would you have me tell you?
no subject
Water or tea? [ no alcoholic drinks tonight, bro. tonight . . . ]
You must relax, brother. [ a squeeze to his shoulder. ] We have a long day ahead of us.

he refrains from shrugging that hand off. he's not overly fond of strangers touching him, but he can deal with it for now. he doubts it would really do anything to deter Yusuf's cheerful mood if he did get that hand off of him, but he'd rather not risk it. ]
Do we really have time to stall like this? Much as I would love to sit around talking [ spoiler: he wouldn't ] we have a mission.

[ now drink! he brought some from home! ] The finest of Istanbul. [ now, about those pressing matters. ]
We will strike when our target is at his most vulnerable. Around dusk.
[ once leaned back against a seat he took, he leans in now towards malik. ]
I have made plans for distractions-- [ with his bombs, it made the situation his forte. ] -- and removing any guards from the sight, where it need be.
[ about the table in front of him, the turk spreads out his artillery for malik's eyes to see; his partner had to know how things worked, including his bombs. ]

he knows what he's doing and he's prepared for whatever is to come. he lets his approval show on his face, something Yusuf should feel lucky to see. it's essentially a silent compliment, something just as rare from Malik as a verbal one. ]
How do these all work?
[ Malik is good with blades and discretion and maps, but bombs? those aren't things he has much experience with. ]
no subject
[ hehe this was so cool-- he liked to talk about his bombs. ]

[ efficiency always comes first. ]
